Khichdi Recipe | Dal Khichdi

 





 

Ingredients :

Rice - 1 bowl

Lentil (green gram) - 1 bowl (moong dal)

Cumin seeds - ½ tsp

Mustard seeds - ½ tsp

Asafoetida - ¼ tsp

Ginger paste - 1 tsp

Garlic paste - 1 tsp

Finely chopped green chilly - 1 tsp

Finely chopped onion - ½ cup

Finely chopped tomato - ¾ cup

Peas - ¼ cup

Chopped carrot - ¼ cup

Finely chopped coriander leaves (optional) - ¼ cup

Turmeric powder - ½ tsp

Cumin powder - ½ tsp

Crushed black pepper or powder - ½ tsp

Coriander powder - ½ tsp (optional)

Dry mango powder (amchur powder) or lemon juice - 1 tsp

Ghee (clarified butter) or oil - 3 spoon

Salt - to taste


 

Preparation -

1. Wash and soak rice and lentils separately in bowls before ½ an hour of making the khichdi.

2. Add ghee (clarified butter),salt and boil the soaked rice and moong dal or green lentil or green gram in a cooker for 1-2 whistle. 

3. Add ghee (clarified butter) or oil in a wok, hot it, add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, asafoetida, sorte it to crackle. Add ginger, garlic paste, finely chopped green chillies. Sorte and cook well till light brown.

4. Add finely chopped onion, sorte and cook till light brown. Add peas & carrot, cook & roast well to soft. Add finely chopped tomato, cook to soft, pulpy and brown colour.

5. Add all spices & salt, roast or cook for 1-2 minutes. Add or mix boiled khichdi in a wok. Mix well. Cook well on a low flame for a boil. 

6. Serve with the ghee or clarified butter and lemon juice and finely chopped coriander leaves on it.


Serve this delicious, tasty, all time healthy & nutritious rice and lentil khichdi with curd - sprinkle cumin powder, raita, ghee, pickle, papad & mix veg salad !!
